Polls: Corps member abducted, 7 arrested for vote buying in Anambra

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Rabiu Ladodo, has announced the abduction of a presiding officer who is also a youth corper in Indiokolo unit, Orumba North LGA of Anambra South Senatorial Zone.

Addressing journalists in Awka, the commissioner said the election was generally peaceful following the aerial and vehicular patrols round the state, adding that a significant turnout of voters was also recorded.

Ladodo said despite the relative peace recorded, there were few recorded isolated incidents which include, ballot box snatching at Onuma imeobi Square Ward 6, unit 4 Onitsha, vote buying, and disruption of election in some polling units,

According to the commissioner, the Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with vote buying and disruption of electoral process while two armed Police mobile personnel were nabbed for being on illegal duty.

He said all cases were under investigation at the State CIID, Awka and effort was being intensified to rescue the abducted persons and bring perpetrators to justice.

Exhibits recovered from the suspects include, one mini shuttle bus; two motorcycles; sum of N110,920; two handbags containing dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and two knives.
