Odion Ighalo's goals fail to lift Changchun

Odion Ighalo scored twice for Changchun Yatai in a Chinese Super League game in their 2-3 defeat tp Shandong Luneng at the Jinan Olympic Sports Centre Stadium on Saturday.

The Nigerian striker scored his first goal from the spot on 48 minutes and then his second turned out to be a consolation with nine minutes to time.

It was however the opponents who took the lead in first minute of added time of first half through Gil in a half that bossed possession with 52 per cent.

On the other side of half, Shandong doubled their lead. Senegalese forward Papiss Cisse scored from an inch-perfect Jingdao Jin’s cross in the 46th minute.

Three minutes into the restart, Changchun won themselves a lifeline when Lin Dai upended Szabolcs Huszti in the box to win a spot kick. Ighalo made no error by despatching the ball past Shandong Luneng goalkeeper Dalei Wang to reduce the deficit.

Shandong’s two-goal lead was restored on 57 minutes through Diego Tardelli. The Brazilian dribbled his way through the defence of Changchun before scoring past Yake Wu.

Ighalo then netted his second and his team’s second of the game from a knock down by Long Tan after a cross by Zhenyu Du.

The former Watford man’s goal nonetheless was too little, too late.

Ighalo has now scored eight goals in 16 league appearances for Changchun – 177.8 goal per minute. He has also provided two assists this season.
