Military troops nab 8 suspected B’Haram, ISWAP logistic suppliers

…Destroy 6 vehicles loaded with logistics

The Operation Lafiya Dole Theater Command has nabbed eight suspected Boko Haram insurgents and ISWAP, logistic suppliers and destroyed six vehicles belonging to them loaded with food and assorted provision in its efforts to block all its logistic chain.

Briefing newsmen shortly before the destruction along Gubio Road Maiduguri on Sunday, the Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Abdul Ibrahim, said:  “The vehicles we are going to destroy today were intercepted base on intelligence reports. We had an information that some unpatriotic element supplied food and non food items from the hinterland and take it’s to the Boko Haram, ISWAP” in the bushes.

General Ibrahim who is also the commander sector 1 of the Operation Lafiya Dole said:  “We carry out diligent investigations before we carry out the destruction, it may be interesting to know that some of the suspects  were arrested before and in the cause of investigation we released them but you can see that we rearrested them again. We do diligent investigations, if not; you can see vehicles moving on the road, we would have arrested them and say they are insurgents’ logistic supplies.

“So, we do thorough investigations before their vehicles are destroyed to serve as deterrent to those still engage in this illicit business of logistic suppliers to the Boko Haram. Investigation is still ongoing and they wil be soon charged to court”, the GOC stated.

“We have been warning the general public through jingles and press releases of the danger of   this illicit and illegal business but they choose to remain adamant. It was clear in our investigation that they are taking items to the insurgents in the Bush.  We are destroying these vehicles to serve as deterrent to others who engage in this act,” General Ibrahim added.

He said:   “The vehicles, which were intercepted about three weeks ago  carrying contraband  items which include foodstuffs, fish, milk, mattress, spare parts,  cooking oil among other items to the Boko Haram and ISWAP in the Bush. “

According to him,”10 people were arrested in connection with illegal business and that investigations have so far revealed that eight people are involved in the illegal business, where the insurgents give them money to supply the items to them, while investigation on two others are still ongoing”.
