Journalists urged to abide by professional ethics

Journalists in Taraba State have again been cautioned to strictly adhere to the ethics of the pen profession and desist from praise singing in order to maintain their integrity in the eyes of the public.

The state Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Mr. Jovita Shafe, made the call in an interview with newsmen shortly after the union’s monthly Congress held at the Press Center Jalingo, the state capital.

He also expressed concern on the condition of NUJ state Secretariat which was unroofed by the past governments of the state but were not able to renovate the place for almost six years.

He appealed to the present administration to assist the union by putting the building back to its normal shape, adding that doing so will help journalists operating in the state to carry out their duties effectively.

Shafe, however, called on politicians to always guide and warn their supporters against political thuggery, especially now that the governorship and state houses of Assembly election is around the corner for the peaceful coexistence of not only the state but the nation at large.

A communique is expected on the outcome of the Congress.
