The leadership of the IMO State league of elders and the Orlu elders council have pledged their support to the new IMO Governor Senator Hope Uzodinma.

Charting with our correspondent in Owerri the state capital Wednesday, on his reaction to the recent supreme court ruling on the state 2019 governorship election which was handed down Tuesday, the chairman of the Orlu elders council and deputy chairman IMO league of elders, prof. Francis Dike said the two bodies welcomes the new governor and assures him of their support for IMO to move forward.

He explained that the two bodies took this stand to ensure that the people of the state whom he noted had suffered so much in the last administration of All progressives Congress (A P C) under the former Governor Rochas Okorocha.

Prof. Dike who is also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria ( S A N ) however commended the sacked Governor Emeka Ihedioha for the strides he took to better the lots of the people in the short period of time he stayed in the office.

On professional level, Prof. Dike who was once the attorney general and commissioner for justice in the state noted that what the people wants is just good governance, recalling that after witnessing bad governance in the last eight years, the people Saw a rare of light when Emeka Ihedioha came on board.

He said that the supreme court has said what they want to say but hopped that the new Governor Hope Uzodinma will kindle the light so that IMO State will emerge as a leading state in Nigeria which it is suppose to be.

Prof. Dike observed that the tragedy about the Nigerian legal system lies with the Ivory Tower, the Universities and Bar Association.

He disclosed that in England, ” we have a Cambridge law journals , the modern law review, and quarterly law review while in America, there is Virginia law review and the University of Columbia so also in Canada and India but sadly in Nigeria, there is no avenue in which judgments can be evaluated by those who practice and teach law.

Prof. Dike regretted that in Nigeria, what the law students and the new generation of lawyers have is the bland statements that ” the supreme court has said this or that and we just swallow all these .”

He further said ” as a lawyer I think there are so many in the supreme court judgment that appears mechanical jurisprudence “.

Also reacting to the judgment, the deputy National chairman south, of the United People Party ( UPP) chief Ejike Uche Dimkpa asa, saw the judgment as a thunder stroke which has taken the state back 100 years in view of the travail IMO people past through in the hands of the APC led administration of former Governor Rochas Okorocha for eight years.

He noted that the effect of the judgment is that the policies put in place by Emeka Ihedioha would be discontinued but urged the new Governor to maintain the single treasury account system introduced by Ihedioha.
