Eld-El-Fitri: FRSC Begins 7 Days Special Patrol

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun has begun Eid-el-Fitri Special patrol to check gridlock on the roads in the state.

Mr Clement Oladele, the Ogun Sector Commander of the Corps, said in a statement on Friday that the special operation would last until June 28.

The Federal Government, on Thursday, declared June 26 and June 27 as public holiday for Muslims to celebrate the Eid-el-Fitri.

Eid-el-Fitri is an occasion celebrated by Muslims to mark the end of the month of Ramadan.

Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, where Muslims fast for 29 or 30 days as prescribed by Almighty Allah.

The Ramadan fast is one of the pillars of Islam.

The Ogun FRSC sector commander said that the special operation would focus on dangerous driving/overtaking, speed limit device, tyre violation and route violation.

Other violations to watch, according to the statement, include loading violation, wrongful overtaking and drivers licence violation, use of a phone while driving, seat belt and passenger manifest.

He said that 35 operational vehicles and towing trucks had been deployed for the patrol.

Oladele further said that regular and special marshals had been deployed to oversee traffic activities on Lagos/Ibadan, Sagamu/Ijebu-Ode, Benin/Ore and Abeokuta/Sango-Ota/Lagos expressways.

He stated that the command would conduct public enlightenment campaign at car parks across the state to educate motorists on the importance of safe driving.

“All the command ambulance points at Itori, Sagamu, Ogunmakin and Ijebu-Ode will operate 24-hours service throughout the period.

“Motorists are advised to obey traffic rules and regulations as any defaulter will be prosecuted in line with the national road traffic regulations,’’ the statement read in part.

He gave two National Emergency telephone numbers, with which the public could report cases of road crash and traffic break down as 122, 08077690202 and 08150646550.
