We don’t discriminate against Igbo in Lagos – Tinubu

National Leader, All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday urged Igbo resident in Lagos to avoid voting against the candidates of the party.

Tinubu said the Igbo community in Lagos should rather use the forthcoming elections to pay back the conducive environment which the leadership of the party has created for them in the state.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s secretariat on Acme Road, Tinubu, who is also a former governor of the state and the co-chairman of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, said the party had never discriminated against Igbo in the state in any form.

He noted that it was important for them to reciprocate such magnanimity by massively voting for all APC candidates.

“We want to appeal to our Igbo brothers from the East that this is the state where you conduct your business. Your children are in our schools; we don’t discriminate against them for WAEC fees; we don’t discriminate against them for NECO fees; we don’t discriminate against them for JAMB fees; even in our universities, they take the benefit of our tuition allowances and all that.

“Now, this time we say help us, vote here. Any vote we get from Ojo, Alaba, Surulere, Amuwo-Odofin, Ajeromi-Ifelodun including Oshodi and Oriade, we would note it. We don’t discriminate; we allow people in their businesses. I am the one who saved Aspander Market from demolition. If they are now heckling our candidates and doing what they want and robbing insult on an injury, we know how to behave. We know how to behave,” Tinubu said.

While urging APC members not to be deterred by the postponement of last Saturday’s elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Tinubu said they should come out enmasse and vote on Saturday, and as well mobilize the people to come out.

He accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of doing everything to sabotage the elections, but assured that the party had failed in its agenda to truncate the people’s wish.

“What I want to say is that you should not be deterred. On Saturday, come out enmasse with your PVCs and vote for all the candidates of APC.

“We are not against INEC. Our opponent is PDP and not INEC. I’m not concerned about INEC; they have the rules and the law on their side and they have postponed the election. Anybody can run into crisis. When a plane gets into turbulence, sometimes the passengers shake, the plane shakes, the pilots shake, and then they eventually steady the plane, the prayer is that they should land safely and happily.

“INEC will land safely and happily with this election and APC will win whether the PDP likes it or not. It is our election and PDP cannot truncate it; all their plans have failed. They don’t want us to vote in that election but their plans have been destroyed,” Tinubu said.

He warned members of the party not to indulge in any form of thuggery, ballot box snatching and violence at the poll, saying dire consequences await anybody who does so in accordance with the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“You have heard the President. I don’t command any army. I am warning our boys that there is no place for thuggery. The PVC is my own army. We must go out and we will elect our President, our Senators and our honourable members of House of Representatives and then the next one, our Governor and State House of Assembly,” he said.
