Corona Virus: Ondo residents groan over ‘Stay at home order’,demand cash incentives

The ‘Stay at home order’ placed on residents by Ondo state government over Corona Virus endemic has taken its toil on the masses in the state.

Some banks particularly in Ikare Akoko opened around 9.30 am with first come, first serve rule and on long queue of customers.
Many customers bemoaned their long standing on queues without seating arrangements and canopies.
Shops in Ikare Akoko,Arigidi,Ugbe and Akungba were not opened except where foodstuffs,fruits Water and Drugs were being sold.
The sit at home was more pronounced in the four local government areas of Akoko Division.
However, the problem of school children who are on compulsory holiday complicated the problems of parents as demands for feeding soared.
A parent,Alhaji Baka Momodu from Irun-Akoko said many parents had paid for feeding of their children in boarding schools before this emergency break.
Sanitizers and face masks are now becoming scarce and too costly in the area.
Face masks of N50 naira now attract N200 while sanitizers ranges from N500 to N4000 depending on the volume.
The economic of Akoko land had partially gone down as productivity is at lower ebb.
Many residents stayed indoors without having anything to fall back on as income.
Some people said  the measures taken without palliative to cushion the effect of stay at home should not be limited to reduction in the pump price of petrol alone.
Chief Boboye Ojomo from  Ifira Akoko Southeast local government and  Alhaji Sarumi Adebola from Irun Akoko appealed to the federal government to emulate other countries and provide citizens with cash incentive to reduce the present hardship due to outbreak of corona virus ravaging the globe.
On the issue of religion,all churches and mosques had complied with government directive on mass gatherings which must not exceed 50 people.
The Chairman,Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs,Akoko Northwest local government,Sheik Basiru Aminu and the Acting Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN)Rev Ayo Odetunji urged people to adhere strictly to government directive as this should be seen as a sacrifice that would curtail spread of the pandemic.
The duo commended governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for his tireless efforts on the dreaded disease.
