As many people are rushing to carry their corpses for emergency interment in Ondo state especially Akokoland as directed by the state government, some families have taken their own bodies to privately owned hospitals in Ikare, kabba in kogi State and Ekiti state where they were charged exorbitant prices to keep their loved ones until after Corona virus pandemic ravaging the country.

Daily Champion had been monitoring the development since the state government gave a month ultimatum or mass burial to the deceased families to carry the dead bodies of their families from government-owned Hospitals.

A mortuary attendant at the State Specialist Hospital, Ikare-Akoko confirmed that people were coming in large number to carry their corpses in order to meet up with government’s deadline.

Also at a Private Hospital, another mortuary attendant who spoke in confidence said many are coming to them but space were limited despite the huge cost.

It was also learnt that similar thing was being experienced at Ipe- Akoko and Iwaro-Oka General Hospitals Mortuary.

In the last one week many high profile corpses had been buried in Akoko land without fanfare based on National Disease Control Centre (NDCC) directive that did not allow more than 20 persons for such burial which forbidden fanfare associated with burials in Yoruba land.

An Oka-Akoko community leader Chief  Lawal Obaalejo noted that many corpses had been removed for internment just to avoid mass burial.

The Chief Medical Director (CMD) to State Specialist Hospital, Ikare Akoko, Dr Ayodele Ogunlade said government acted in good faith based on health hazards and the present pandemic ravaging every part of the world.

He urged owners of corpses to come around to collect their corpses before the expiration of deadline.

An Anglican priest, Ven.  Foluso Akerele, urged Christians to reduce the number of days to keep their corpses in the morgue and stop wasting resources unnecessarily.
