The Chairman of Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (TSIEC), Dr. Philip Duwe, has said the Commission would conduct elections in all the 16 local government areas of the state on May 16, 2020.

Duwe, who disclosed this in Jalingo while briefing journalists, said insecurity in some parts of the state delayed the conduct of the local government polls in the state.

He maintained that the state House of  Assembly had already approved the  2020 budget for the commission.

“2019 was not safe for us to conduct local government election in the state, and that was why the commission has to wait for signal from security agencies as to when it will be convenient to hold elections”,  he said.

He said Taraba State last year came under serious security threat, adding that the Governor can only give instruction for the conduct of election based on security report from security agents.

The Chairman charged citizens of  Taraba state to conduct themselves in an orderly manner and allow people to participate in the forthcoming local government elections.

He urged politicians to equally play the game according to the rules and also educate their supporters on the need to live peaceful with one another.

Our correspondent reported that the tenure of the elected council chairmen had elapsed since 2019 and the state government has been appointing Caretaker Committee to pilot the affairs of  the councils.
