Unpaid entitlement: Group threatens to unseat Obiano, frustrate Obaze

The Association of Former Transition Committee in Anambra State has threatened to oust the State Governor Willie Obiano through ballot on November 18, 2017 for failing to pay all her entitlements.

This position was revealed through a release made available to newsmen and signed by the Chairman of the group, Chief Charles Chigbata, Secretary, Hon. Tochukwu Nwasike and Public Relation Officer (PRO), Okwunwanne Basil, after their meeting in Awka  on Tuesday.

Chigbata said the association expressed with dismay the manner through which the Anambra State government of All Progressive Grand Alliance, led by Governor Obiano was treating them.

The Chairman disclosed that the members of the association were appointed by the former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi in 2011 through 2013 and their appointment was signed by former Secretaries to the State Government, Chief Paul Odenigbo and Mr. Oseloka Henry Obaze which was eventually ratified by the Electoral College (Anambra State House of Assembly).

He noted that they were later drafted to serve as coordinators of 326 wards in the state on the bid to elect Chief Willie Obiano as the governor of Anambra State in 2013. The assignment, according to him, was carried out diligently, and the positive result of electing Obiano was achieved.

He regretted that since the expiration of their tenure, they were yet to receive their entitlements which include severance package, 28 days in office and wardrobe allowances from the state government which other political appointees such SSG, commissioners, SAs/SSAs have duly received.

The communiqué reads in part: “We were nominated by various communities in the state and was elected by the Electoral College (Anambra State House of Assembly), hence, we are entitled for all our benefits as councilor.

“During a meeting with one of the members of APGA BOT  and Spiritual director of Ogilisi igbo foundation, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka at Rojenny Tourist Village, Oba, the Special Adviser to governor Obiano on Political matter, Hon. Chinedu Obidigwe, promised to ensure that our entitlements is paid, even though he was of the opinion that we were deceived by Mr. Peter Obi who ought to have pay us before leaving the office in 2014.

“We are saying that if other political appointees in that state such as Secretary to the State Government, Commissioners, Special Advisers, among other others have received their entitlements, the appointed councilors also qualified to receive their entitlements”.

The association maintained that they are on ground for November 18, 2017 governorship election in the State, hoping to use their numerical strength of over 2000 members and multitude of followers across the 326 wards in the state to pay back to Obaze of PDP since he had a stake in the appointment and the sitting governor should nothing is done about their request.

They were also threatened to form pact with candidate of any political party who would be ready to recognize and attain their request, as they did in 2013, insisting that even if Mr. Peter Obi did not pay us, Gov. Obiano whom they sacrificed a lot in ensure he clichéd the governorship position in the state should, as a matter of gratitude, pay them.

.For a better society.
