Sterling Bank launches world first digital commodity marketplace

Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of Sterling Bank Plc, Mr. Suleiman Abubakar has said that global spread of mobile phones and cellular networks are facilitating easier access to financial services in hard-to-reach populations and small businesses at low cost and risk in developing countries.

In line with its enriching lives proposition and renewed commitment to promoting financial literacy among students, Sterling Bank Plc has trained over 17,000 secondary school students across the country on the key fundamentals of financial literacy and re-enforcing the need to encourage savings culture among the youth.

In spite of the depressing effect of tough macroeconomic conditions on the overall performance of the banking sector, Managing Director, Sterling Bank Plc, Mr. Yemi Adeola, said the improvements in the underlying fundamentals of the bank in the third quarter of 2016 underlined the resoluteness of the bank in building a sustainable business anchored on effective risk management and a robust retail business.

In recognition of its excellent risk management practices, Sterling Bank was conferred with the award for the Best Bank in Nigeria in the Banking and Investment Services category of the Nigeria Risk Award (NRA) for 2015. The Award was presented to the Bank at the recent Nigerian Economic & Social Risks Summit which held in Lagos.

The performance of Sterling Bank Plc in the financial year ended December 31, 2014 has been attributed to the bank’s resilient growth model and its ability to continue to deliver value for stakeholders.
This commendation was made by Yemi Adeola, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) while comment on the bank’s performance during the period which he described as a difficult year.
