Insurance Industry: How feasible is the N16trn income by 2020?

The Nigerian insurance industry has been in existence for close to a century, yet, in the past five years, the Gross Written Premium of the industry has hovered between N300 billion and N320 billion, which is evident of the fact that the figures are not growing in the same proportion, if the enormous potential at the disposal of the sector is to be used as benchmark.

The  National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) is seeking the support of  Gombe State on Compulsory insurance  in its drive to woo state governments into advancing the course of insurance penetration in the country, the National Insurance Commission, NAICOM, has sought the support and collaboration of Gombe State government in the implementation of the Compulsory insurances.

THE National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) says the insurance industry reform programmes such as International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Code of Corporate Governance (CCG) and the Risk-Based Supervision(RBS) carried out by it are all globally induced and Nigeria’s insurance industry cannot afford to operate in isolation in the global financial sector.
