Cristiano Ronaldo: Florentino Perez to speak to player after Confederations Cup

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez says he has not spoken to Cristiano Ronaldo about his future, but will do so after the Confederations Cup.

Ronaldo, 32, is said to want to leave Spain after being accused of tax fraud.

The forward, with the Portugal squad in Russia, signed a new five-year contract in November 2016, but has been linked with a return to Manchester United.

“The only thing I can say is Cristiano Ronaldo is a Real Madrid player,” said Perez, who was re-elected on Monday.

Spanish prosecutors have accused Ronaldo of defrauding the authorities of millions of euros in tax, which he has denied.

“Obviously something has happened, something has affected him, his credibility,” Perez told Spanish radio station Onda Cero. “I’m sure he will tell us and we will see.

“It’s no coincidence that he’s in a very important tournament, the Confederations Cup. It hasn’t finished yet and I don’t want to disturb the Portuguese team.”

Perez says Ronaldo, who has also been linked with a move to Paris St-Germain, is not motivated by money.

He said: “He just wants to be the best player in the world. If Cristiano wants to leave Real Madrid, it won’t be for money.”

Perez said he is yet to receive an offer for Ronaldo – or striker Alvaro Morata or midfielder James Rodriguez, both of whom have also been linked with United.

“We want to keep all our players next season, including James,” he added.

Cristiano Ronaldo set up the opening goal as his Portugal side were held to a draw by Mexico

Cristiano Ronaldo set up the opening goal as his Portugal side were held to a draw by Mexico in their first game at the Confederations Cup in Russia.

Pepe had a goal disallowed for offside after a referral to the video assistant referees before Ricardo Quaresma sold the keeper a dummy and slotted in.

Javier Hernandez equalised with a low header from Carlos Vela’s cross.

Cedric Soares’ 86th-minute shot was deflected in, but Hector Moreno snatched a point in the 91st minute.

Mexico defender Moreno, who recently joined Italian side Roma from Dutch club PSV Eindhoven, headed in off the post from a Jonathan dos Santos cross.

Earlier, Ronaldo had a header brilliantly tipped away by Mexico keeper Guillermo Ochoa, while Gelson Martins – a target for Liverpool – fired just wide on the counter for Portugal.

On Friday, a source close to Ronaldo revealed the Real Madrid forward wants to leave Spain.

The source told BBC Sport that the 32-year-old is “upset” after being accused of tax fraud in the country, adding: “He feels he’s honest, has good character and did everything OK.”

Spanish prosecutors have accused Ronaldo of evading tax of 14.7 million euros (£13m), which he has denied.

Spanish Authorities Accuse Cristiano Ronaldo of Tax Fraud

World’s highest paid athlete, Cristiano Ronaldo has been accused of tax fraud by the Spanish Authorities, BBC reports.

The prosecutor’s office in Madrid has said a lawsuit has been filed against the Real Madrid player.

Ronaldo, who is accused of evading tax of 14.7m euros from 2011 to 2014, had earlier denied allegations in December that he had avoided tax on income allegedly held in offshore accounts.

A journalist from Radio Television Portuguesa (RTP) had asked about the allegations and he said, “Quien no debe no teme,” which roughly translates as “He who has nothing to hide has no fear.”

Ronaldo leads Portugal to win in Latvia - Russia 2018

Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice, taking his tally in the World Cup qualifiers to 11, to help them claim a somewhat flattering but important 3-0 win away to Latvia on Friday.

Portugal’s fifth successive win in Group B left them with 15 points from six games but still three behind leaders Switzerland who beat Faroe Islands 2-0 to maintain their 100 percent record.

Ronaldo, Portugal’s all-time leading scorer, took his tally to 73 goals for his country after another decisive performance, reports Reuters.

He looked their only real threat in the first half and scored four minutes before halftime when he stooped to head in from close range after Jose Fonte’s header hit the post.

Ronaldo scored with another easy header in the 63rd after Ricardo Quaresma’s cross was deflected into his path and then played a one-two with Andre Silva who scored the third four minutes later.

The group looks increasingly like it will boil down to the final match between Portugal and Switzerland in October which the European champions must win to top the standings, qualify directly and avoid a perilous two-leg playoff.
