NLC directs affiliate Unions to down tools next Wednesday

The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, has reacted to the recent invasion of the National Assembly by thugs.
Thugs suspected to be loyal to the suspended Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial district, Ovie Omo-Agege, on Wednesday, invaded the red chambers and forcefully took away the parliament’s symbol of authority.

National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) yesterday urged the newly elected president of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Ayuba Wabba to settle with the 23 affiliate unions of the congress that rejected the results of the delegates’ election that produced him as the president of the congress.
The president of the factional NANS, Tijani Usman who gave the charge during the courtesy visit of the association to the new president on Monday in Abuja, said it was necessary to draw the aggrieved members closer and make then understand the need to unite and fight a common front in order to protect the interest of Nigerian workers.
He said that the association believes in the capability of the Wabba led NLC to settle the disagreement that arose from the just concluded election of the congress, while appealing to the aggrieved unions to reconsider their stand.
The NANS President said they were at the NLC secretariat to congratulate the new president and identify with his leadership and equally work with the team.
Speaking, the President of NLC, Ayuba Wabba said the visit of the association was significant in the life the congress, maintaining that all the social partners will be accommodated in his leadership.
He said that the concern raised by the association will be taken care of, stating that the welfare of Nigerian students is the welfare of the parents.
Wabba, while assuring that the new face of the NLC will work with relevant stakeholders to tackle the issue of unemployment in the country, called on Nigerians to join hands with the congress in order to achieve the feat.
