Senate declares IGP enemy of democracy

ADEKUNLE ADESUJI, Abuja

Senate on Wednesday decorated the Inspector General of Police, Idris Ibrahim as enemy of democracy .Senate took the decision after closed door meeting which lasted for fifty minutes.

Senate in its resolution also said that IGP unfit to hold public office in Nigeria and abroad.The Senate had invited the Idris to address the spate of killings across the country and inhuman treatment of distinguished Senator Dino Melaye.

Speaking before Senate embarked on closed door session, the Senate leader, Senator Ahmad Lawan said, “It is very unusual for a public servant to act like this. I have never see this before anywhere in the world, we need to take a decision because this affects security in the entire country.”

In his contributions, Senator Isah Misau stated that “What the IGP is doing is not against the Senate but against the presidency that appointed him into office, it’s unfortunate. The IG is not competent to be in the office.”
