FRIDAY OBOH, Sokoto
The Sokoto sector command of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, has completed arrangements to commence enforcement of installation of Speed Limiting Devices on vehicles. The Command, therefore, urged vehicle owners to purchase the device and install on their vehicle as the full enforcement will commence on February 1st 2017 starting with commercial vehicle and Large Fleet.
A statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Aliyu Kanya Garba, on Thursday said the exercise was aimed at reducing the number of crashes being recorded as a result of excessive speed by drivers in Sokoto State.
According to him, the FRSC law of 2007 empowers the Corps to determine and enforce speed limiters for all categories of vehicles by controlling the use of speed limiters devices.
Garba stated that the provision of the law states that all motor vehicles plying any public road shall have Speed Governors and that a person shall not drive a vehicle on any public road which is not fitted with a speed limiter.
He, therefore, urged the motoring public to abide the provisions of the new law to ensure their safety on the roads.
