Regular consumption of vegetables improves human health — Study

A group of researchers have said that regular consumption of vegetables could improve the health conditions of humans.
This is contained in a research work of researchers at the National Horticultural Research Institute, Ibadan.
The research, published in the 2014 Journal of Applied Agricultural Research of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), was made available in Abuja on Wednesday.
Led by Mrs Iyabo Adeoye, Principal Research Officer at the institute, the research had “Vegetable Consumption among Students of Tertiary Institutions in Oyo State’’ as its topic.
The study noted that constant eating of vegetables among students of tertiary institutions could prevent them from contacting some diseases.
“There is need to create and promote awareness on the importance of adequate consumption of vegetables among students in tertiary institutions in order to improve their health and prevent diseases,” the scientists submitted.
According to the study, the importance of vegetables in the body cannot be over-emphasised, not only to students, but to all humans because of its great benefits.
“Vegetables supply most of the vitamins and minerals required in human diet.
“Vegetables are rich in vitamins and minerals such as carotene (provitamins A), ascorbic, acid, riboflavin, iron, iodine, calcium, among others.
The study, therefore, encouraged the populace to always eat vegetables in order to remain healthy.
