Pellegrini dismisses Messi rumours

Manuel Pellegrini has dismissed talk of City being in for Lionel Messi as “rumours”.
Reports in Spain suggest that the little Argentine wizard is ready to leave Barcelona, unhappy at threats he will be prosecuted for an alleged tax fraud.
If there was a sniff of a chance of signing Messi, City would undoubtedly go for it, and they have plenty to offer – they could match his £336,000 a week wages, and the transfer would pay for itself in merchandising.
City also have the lure of their own happy Argentine ex-pat community of Messi’s close friends Sergio Aguero and Pablo Zabaleta, and Martin Demichelis and Willy Caballero.
But Pellegrini said there was nothing in the talk as yet.
“The rumours are only rumours,” he said. “What he did was exceptional and there are few players that can reach his level. The record he has got reflects how important he is for Barcelona.”
