As 23,361 civil servants in Sokoto state begin a 70 weeks Computer Appreciation training programme, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has mandated all workers in the state to be computer literate.The governor, who spoke while approving the training programme said his administration, was embarking on the important project in order to increase efficiency in the civil service.
He stated that in this age and time, no progress can be made without knowledge of computer and by extension information and communication technology (ICT).
“The milestones achieved in the sector in the state, as can be seen from award of best state in ICT from the Nigerian Information and Technology Development Agency (NITDA), should be sustained and built upon”, he stated.
According to him, the state government has involved the leadership of labour unions for easy mobilization expressing hope that the workers, who are direct beneficiaries, would show enough dedication and commitment to the training.
The special computer training will be conducted in six centers situated at three State-owned Tertiary Institutions and the Sokoto Education Development Trust Fund.
The institutions are Sokoto State University, Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic and Shehu Shagari College of Education (SSCOE), Sokoto.
The statement issued Sunday by the governor spokesman, Imam Imam said the Central Coordination for the training will be located at Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic under the supervision of the Rector of the institution, Prof. Aminu A. Ibrahim to be assisted by 5 others.
The statement said the Head of Service of Sokoto State, Alhaji Buhari Bello Kware, has already met with the coordinating team and the leadership of the organized Labour in the State so that all stake holders are carried along in ensuring that the training was successful.
