Over 110 Boko Haram insurgents were on Friday killed in a gun battle in Damboa, the headquarters of Damboa local government area of Borno State when they attempted to attack the town.

A security source who does not want his name in print told our correspondent that the insurgents who came mostly in black uniforms, used cattle as their shield, but they were quickly rounded up and killed  by the security operatives.

“We rounded them up and killed them all, as there was no escaping route for them, we killed over 100 of them, while their vehicles and motorcycles were destroyed”, the source said.

A resident of the area Alhaji Mohammed Bulama said “ the incident occurred at about 1:35 pm when we were about to start Jumuat Prayers (Friday congregational Prayer) when we started hearing gunshots, and we quickly went back to our houses.

“The insurgent who came with herds of cattle as their frontiers, when they started shooting killing three civilians before the military and the Civilian JTF quickly rounded them up killing over 110 of them including the cattle, Bulama stated.

He said some of their people also sustained bullet wounds and were moved to Biu General Hospital for medication.

Efforts to get the Police Public Relations Officer Borno State Command for confirmation did not yield any result, as his phone lines were switched off at the time of going to press.
