The leadership of the Accord Party in Imo State has come up with the stand that the immediate past governor of the state, now Senator Rochas Okorocha never conducted local government election throughout his eight years of governance in the state.

The Chairman of the party, Elder ThankGod Ibe stated this during a press briefing in Owerri, recently.

According to him, the local government election which Okorocha claimed he conducted towards the end of his second tenure was illegal local government election.

He said that the present administration in the state under Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha acted well by disbanding, the so called elected council Chairmen and councilors.

In his words, “Governor Ihedioha acted within the law, by suspending the so called local government Chairmen and Councillors and other appointees of Rochas Okorocha”.

The Chairman disclosed that the party took time to study and review the unwholesome act of invading the local government headquarters in the state on January 6, 2020 by the agents of the Immediate past Governor Rochas Okorocha.

He recalled that the Accord Party filed a case in a suit Number HOW/613/2019 against the administration of former Governor Okorocha over the said election.

According to him, we challenged the constitutionally and validity of the said local government election which the Okorocha administration conducted on August 25, 2018 before the expiration of its tenure.

He further explained that the ground upon which the suit is predicted include a ground stating that the Independent State Electoral Commission (ISIEC) which purportedly conducted the election was not properly constituted according to law.

Another ground he went on is that, there was actually no local government election held in accordance with the electoral Act of 2010 as amended and failure to constitute an electoral petition Tribunal.

The Chairman continued, that the party took this legal action on a major ground that Accord Party is the only party apart from Rochas Okorocha’s party the APC which participated in the said election.

He however said that the Party’s stand come up following the invasion of the local government Headquarters in the state by the disbanded Chairmen and councilors recently.

He called on the present administration in the state to take legal action against those involved in the attempt to forcefully take over the council headquarters.
