Nigerian children undergoing Pneumonia vaccination nationwide

Nigerian children are currently undergoing Pneumonia vaccination across the Nation.
The exercise which commenced on the 15th of December, 2014is aim at introducing the Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV10) into the country’s routine immunization schedule where all children under the age of one are expected to receive three doses of the vaccine.
According to stakeholders, PVC 10 is being introduced to aid the attainment of the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 4, which focuses on reduction in child morbidity and mortality associated with pneumococcal related diseases.
The vaccine is expected to prevent the deaths of 486,957 children over the space of six years, according to statistics released by the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA).
According to World Health Organization (WHO), estimates, over 800,000 children below the age of five die from pneumococcal diseases each year, with the bulk of that number being from developing countries.
