Nigerian Army happy with Military, Customs relationship

The Commander 9 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General A.M Sabo, has expressed satisfaction with the cordial working relationship with the Nigeria Military and Customs noting such mutual understanding will further strengthen mutual cooperation.
He stated this recently when paid a courtesy visit to the Controller Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘A’ Ikeja, Controller Turaki Usman Adamu.
The Commander on arrival was received by the Controller alongside other principal officers in the Unit. He inspected a quarter guard mounted in his honour by officers and men of the FOU ‘A’ Ikeja before they both retired to the Controller’s office for a brief meeting.
The Brigade Commander in his presentation expressed satisfaction with the quality of the guard of honour. He stated that his visit was informed by the desire of the Nigeria Army to further strengthen the existing relationship between them and the Nigeria Customs Service.
He noted that he had planned this visit earlier than now but for exigencies of office. Brigadier General Sabo eulogized the Customs Management under the Comptroller-General of Customs for the reforms which had been carried out in the Service.
In a response, the Controller Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘A’, Controller Turaki Usman Adamu thanked the Brigade Commander for the visit, stating that it will afford the two agencies the opportunity to further cement the existing relationship.
He stated that he felt deeply honoured with the visit and promised to work towards sustaining the age long relationship between the Army and the NCS.
The Controller thanked the Military particularly those around the Border areas for their supportive role to the Customs whenever they were called upon. He requested the Commander to continually assist the Service through operational backups whenever the need arise.
In the same development, a delegation from the Lagos State Ministry of Environmental Services led by a Deputy Director in the Ministry Dr (Mrs.) Iyabo Philips also paid a courtesy visit to the Unit on the same day.
The leader of the delegation, in her opening remarks commended the high level of environmental sanitation of the Unit and noted that the visit was aimed at familiarizing with the leadership of FOU ‘A’. She noted that the Lagos Ministry of Environment is poised to ensuring sustainable environmental management which she stated led to the creation of the Zero Tolerance programme.
She stated that the essence is to curb environmental abuses, degradation and manipulations. She however made some observations on some attitudes capable of militating against their effort.
In his response, the Controller thanked her for the visit as he pointed out that the Unit also have Zero Tolerance to environmental issues. He promised that the Customs will always support the effort of the Lagos State Government to keep Lagos clean.
In that regard, the Controller called for extension of the esteemed considerations of the Unit to his Excellency, Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) for his leadership qualities which could be clearly seen from his urban renewal policy.
