NASS CCTV Camera not functioning- Ekweremadu

Deputy Senate President on Thursday disclosed that the National Assembly CCTV camera installed within and around the Parliament complex is not working.

The Deputy Senate President made this known while reacting to incident of burglary at the office of Senator Oluremi Tinubu last month.

Speaking on the matter, Ekweremadu noted that the occurrence at Tinubu’s office was not an isolated case, lamenting the poor state of security in the complex especially faulty CCTV cameras.

He said: “Unfortunately and regrettably, this is not an isolated matter. I got a report during the break of a former colleague who came to carry out a transaction in in the National Assembly and left his car with some money in it. Before he came back, the car was broken into and the money was removed.

“He parked the car close to one of the buildings and thought it would be easy to detect. He reported to the management and they tried to look at the CCTV footage. Regrettably, the CCTV was not working.

“I think it is an embarrassment to all of us that we fix CCTV all over the place with public funds and when matters arise for which it should come into use, we discover that we have just wasted public money. I think this is not acceptable”

While raising point of order, Senator Tinubu said she is no longer safe with what happened in her National Assembly office.

He, however, demanded for investigation on the matter by the Senate.
