NATIONAL Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) yesterday said it has concluded plans to deploy mobile laboratory technology to borders and other entries to the country to identify substandard and rejected products that are imported into the country.
The Director General of the agency, Paul Orhii who dropped the hint when the Comptroller General of custom, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (rtd) paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Abuja, expressed worry that some of the products that were imported to the country were those that were rejected outside the country.
He said those products that were rejected in the international market were the ones being patronized by Nigerians in the local market, calling for the partnership of the Nigerian custom with the agency to fight the substandard products with the use of mobile laboratory technology.
He further called for the collaboration of other relevant agencies to join hands with the agency in tackling fake and substandard products in the country, maintaining that the agency will not leave any stone unturned in ensuring that only products that are of standard are consumed in the country.
Speaking earlier, the comptroller General of custom said he was at the agency to discuss areas of collaboration with the management of the regulatory agency for the good of the country.
He urged the agency to create a platform where the relevant agencies will meet with the custom to chat a way forward in the fight against substandard products.
