Na’abba elevated to APC BOT

FORMER Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Umar Ghali Na’abba, who Monday decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC), was Tuesday offered an automatic membership of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT).

This was even as the national chairman of APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun described Na’abba as a man of indisputable quality and one with the pedigree needed in APC.

‪The former number four citizen had withdrawn his membership of the ruling People Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday through a letter he sent to the chairman of the PDP Sharada Ward in Kano Municipal Local Government Area and titled “Notification of Resignation from PDP organs and committees”

‪Addressing the leadership of APC at its national secretariat yesterday when he formally presented himself, the former speaker said he believed that the country needed change more than any other time, adding that the country had been suffering from miss-rule imposed on it by the PDP.

‪He added: “The total sum of my communication was that I have decided to leave the party that I have been a member of in the last 16 years. When I and other senior members of the party left the party between 2005 to 2007, a lot of things happened that we thought were undemocratic, we had to leave the party (PDP).

“Eventually some of us return after the late Umar Yar’Adua made certain and sure promises about effecting needed change in the party procedures and processes which never happened.

‪”I believe that this country more than any other time in our history, needs change, particularly at the top. In the last 16 years, there has been miss-rule in this country. Nigerians are been miss-ruled by successive Presidents of the PDP extraction.

“Some of us fought over this and to no success. I believe that the momentum today is in favor of the APC, and we should never allow it to go down.

‪”It is in that quest that I feel having resigned from the PDP, I must join the APC so that I can help to roll that momentum and that it is quite remarkable that since yesterday I have been receiving calls from all nooks and crannies of Nigeria, that is to show you that the APC is a national party”.

‪Na’Abba was accompanied to the APC secretariat by some former House of Representatives members. He added that the main problem the country was facing was that the leaders don’t always carry the followers along, also said that Nigerians are the easiest people to rule in the world even has he believed that with General Buhari as the president the nation would witness a change.

‪Responding, Chief Tony Momoh said one thing that many people forget is that APC today is bigger than PDP.

He added that about three former National chairman of PDP have moved to APC, declaring that nobody in the recent time has joined the PDP therefore declared that APC is the biggest party in Africa.

‪Momoh, while welcoming the former speaker said the coming elections will be free, fair and transparent, saying everybody will accept the result.

‪Also, former National chairman of PDP, Chief Audu Ogbeh, commended Na’abba for joining the APC though he (Ogbe) was the chairman of PDP when Na’abba was almost impeached.
