Mobile Police ‘parade’ 25 suspected rapists, kidnappers

Special Forces from the Force Headquarters, Abuja, have arrested 25 suspected kidnappers and rapists operating along the Abuja-Kaduna highway.The suspects, who belonged to different gangs, were “paraded” yesterday at the Ibrahim Coomaissie Divisional Police Headquarters in Gurara Local Government Area (Gawu Babangida), NigerState.

Parading the suspects amidst heavy security presence, the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr. Jimoh Moshood, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), said a total of 72 suspects had been apprehended within the axis, in the last one week.

Moshood further noted that one of the suspected gang leaders, Ali Ali, had earlier been arrested, charged to court, but released on bail. The said gang leader confessed to leading a syndicate of 17 suspects, who had undertaken three operations, prior to their arrest. This was as the suspects confessed to collecting a N2 million ransom from the family of one of their female victims.

While appealing for support from the judiciary, the FPRO vowed the readiness of the police to round-up all criminal elements terrorising the area. According to him, the ongoing operation, which covers Kaduna, Kogi and Niger States, as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), would be replicated in all the states of the Federation.

“They (suspects) specialise in attacking vehicles that are loaded with goods. “The gang has up to six drivers; most of them are commercial driver”, Moshood said. Items recovered and displayed included four “serviceable AK-47 rifles. Among other suspects arrested were: Isah Umar (Principal Suspect and Gang Leader), Abubakar Muhammed, Baje Sari, and Sanusi Adamu.
