Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr Joe Akabuike, has urged doctors in the state to be on the alert over meningitis said to have been detected in some parts of the country.Dr Akabuike, who stated this in an interview with newsmen in Awka on Friday, said the health institutions and hospitals in the state have been alerted on the disease reported existence in some parts of the country.
The Health Commissioner explained that at present, meningitis is non-existent in Anambra, adding that the hospitals in the state have been equipped relatively well to contend with patients health needs.
He said Governor Willie Obiano had, since he assumed duty as governor, been responsive to health needs of the people adding that some hospitals in the state had been accorded specialist status.
“We don’t want to be taken by surprise. And we don’t want to chances that is why we have to be on the alert. Meanwhile we have not got any report of the existence of meningitis in the state”, Akabuike said.
