Man jailed for stealing goats

Court jails man over N71m oil fraud


A man, Mutiu Oduola, was on Monday arraigned and sentenced to three months by a Magistrate court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State capital, for stealing goats.

The convict was said to have stolen a goat valued at N30,000 and another she-goat valued at N15,000, property of Oluwatoyin Dada.

The total  value of the goats is N45,000.

According to the charge, the offences were committed in March at about 15:47pm and on October 4, 2019 at about 10:49am at Koju Foam Area, Osogbo.

The offence was contrary and punishable under section 390(3) of the criminal code cap 34 vol 2 laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

Mutiu, who was arraigned on two counts bothering on stealing, pleaded guilty.

The Prosecutor, Soyemi Bose, stated the fact by tendering some exhibits before the court which include statements of the complainant, accused person and the she-goat.

The accused person pleaded to the court to temper justice with mercy because he is a family man that has a little child.

Magistrate Risikat Olayemi, while ruling stated that upon the plea of the accused, confession and recovery of the black she-goat, each of the two counts is established and proved beyond reasonable doubt. “He is hereby found guilty and convicted”, she said.

Magistrate Risikat sentenced him to three months or an option of N2,500 fine for each count for the fact that he did not waste the time of the court, his youthful age, being remorseful and for being a first time offender.

The imprisonment is to run concurrently, while the fine option is consecutively.
