A total turnover of 1.161 billion shares worth N13.174 billion in 18,142 deals were traded this week by investors on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) in contrast to a total of 1.416 billion shares valued at N17.249 billion that exchanged hands last week in 20,303 deals.
The Financial Services industry led the activity chart with 801.229 million shares valued at N6.219 billion traded in 10,415 deals; thus contributing 68.98per cent and 47.20per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
The Conglomerate industry followed with 139.940 million shares worth N585.927 million in 943 deals, while the third place was Consumer Goods industry with a turnover of 84.546 million shares worth N3.445 billion in 2,674 deals.
Meanwhile, trading in the top three equities namely, Law Union & Rock Insurance Plc, Zenith Bank Plc and United Bank for Africa Plc. accounted for 369.396 million shares worth N3.086 billion in 3,360 deals, contributing 31.80per cent and 23.43per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
The NSE All-Share Index (ASI) and Market Capitalization appreciated by 0.04per cent to close the week at 27,002.15 and N13.033 trillion respectively.
All other indices finished lower with the exception of NSE Main Board, NSE-AFR Div Yield, NSE Meri Growth, NSE Consumer Goods, NSE Lotus II and NSE Industrial Goods indices which appreciated by 1.83per cent, 2.21per cent, 1.81per cent, 4.69per cent, 2.72per cent and 0.35per cent respectively, while the NSE ASeM Index closed flat.
On the gainers list, Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals Plc led gainers table during the week, gaining 30.36 per cent or N0.17 kobo to close at N0.73 kobo, A.G. Leventis Plc followed with a gain of 20.00 or N0.06 kobo to close at N0.36 kobo, Royal Exchange Plc added 15.00 or N0.03 kobo to close at N0.23 kobo. Other companies appreciated in.price were Lasaco Assurance Plc 13.04 per cent , UACN Plc11.89 per cent , Wapic Insurance Plc 11.76 per cent , Cadbury Nigeria Plc10.00 per cent, Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc 10.0 per cent, Presco Plc 9.39 per cent and Law Union and Rock Insurance Plc 8.33 per cent.
FBNHoldings Plc recorded the highest loss during the week, dropping by 10.67 per cent or N0.80 kobo to close at N6.70 kobo, C&I Leasing Plc trailed with a loss of 9.85 per cent or N0.65 kobo to close at N5.95 kobo while Okomu Oil Palm Plc fell by 9.73 per cent or N5.35 kobo to close at N49.65 kobo.
Other firms depreciated in price were Ikeja Hotel Plc 9.60 per cent , Afromedia Plc 8.11 per cent , Access Bank Plc 7.96 per cent Unilever Nigeria Plc 7.74 per cent, NPF Microfinance Bank Plc 7.50 per cent, United Bank for Africa 6.00 per cent and Cornerstone Insurance Plc 5.95 per cent.
For a better society
