The Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Chief T.A. Orji has urged Nigerians to invest heavily in education which he described as the bedrock of all human endeavours that grooms the mind and energizes the hands into skills.
Chief Orji ,who stated this in Umuahia during 2018 edition of his annual scholarship scheme award which like in previous years had 60 recipients drawn from six local government areas namely Umuahia North and South, Isialangwa North and South, Ikwuano and Osisioma ,disclosed that education can turn a beggarly deaf and dumb into a genius.
According to Sen. Orji, who is also the immediate past governor of the state, a total of 180 students have benefited from his education empowerment scheme adding that in the selection process ,the different board members in different councils have worked assiduously to make it fraud free and all inclusive.
However, he noted that as humans, there may be one error or the other, even as he invited stakeholders to reach out to those managing the scheme as more ideas may improve the project.
He thanked Governor Ikpeazu Okezie for coming to identify with the scheme and for his financial support to encourage and sustain it.
Speaking at the event, the member Representing Ikwuano Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Sam Onuigbo commended Chief Orji for the good work worthy of emulation he has been doing in Abia state which had given the indigent students and other beneficiaries the opportunity to complete their education.
He described education as the greatest legacy that any parent can give his or her child just as he urged the beneficiaries to make very good use of the opportunity.
Speaking in similar vein, the member representing Isialangwa Federal Constituency of Abia state, Hon. Darlyton Nwokocha , praised Senator Orji for his gesture describing him as, “Legacy purpose individual and human being“ adding that he has created hope for so many people.
Addressing the recipients of the scholarship awards, the Deputy Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Cosmos Ndukwe disclosed that Chief Orji has empowered over 1000 people urging the recipients to utilize the rare opportunity. Chief Orji he noted is the father and mentor of many Abia politicians .
Commending Senator Orji at the event, chairman, Umuahia North LGA, Hon. Chidiebere Okoroafor thanked him for assisting the students and the youths of Abia state urging the governor to continue the good work he has been doing.
Also speaking at the event, the chairman, Isialangwa North council, Chief Ginger Onwusibe said Ukwa Ngwa people will not forget the role Senator Orji played in making Ukwa Ngwa man the incumbent governor which is the first time since the creation of Abia state and promised that Ukwa Ngwa people will always support Orji’s aspirations in life.
Chairman, Ikwuano council, Hon, Ngozi Orji, said “Iam happy to be in your line up, words cannot be enough to describe what you have done. We are happy to be associated with you“.
Similarly, the chairman, Osisioma local government area, Hon. Enyinna Mgbeahuru, thanked Sen. Orji for coming to the aid of the students adding that they would continue to support him.
Chairman of the Scholarship Committee, Engr. Emma Nwabuko said , “We are grateful to Chief T.A. Orji for the love he is showing to us within these periods; there are a lot of parents that burdens have been removed from their shoulders. We have some indigent students among the beneficiaries“.
Thanking Senator Orji on behalf of other recipients, Patrick Chimezie , a political science and education student said, “ I want to thank the distinguished Senator. He has done a lot for us and we look forward to 2019; we want to appreciate him for remembering to alleviate our suffering“.
