INEC: Senate confirms Kaugama as REC Jigawa State

SENATE yesterday at plenary confirmed the appointment of Abdulahi Adamu Kaugama as Resident Electoral Commissioner REC, for Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission INEC.

Kaugama’s appointment was considered following a letter from President Buhari to that effect.

Daily Champion learnt that Kaugama was secretary of INEC for six years and retired in July 2013.

Kaugama was also part of the team that hatched the 2014 electoral programme which has been adjudged as the most credible and transparent election in recent past.

Attesting to his moral standing, Senators Kabiru Gaya and Jubril Bala said that he has unquestionable character and excellent pedigree urging senate to allow him take a bow.

Senator Adamu Aliero observed that going by his intimidating CV, he is eminently qualified, urging him to ensure he adds more value to INEC to ensure near extinction in electoral litigation if confirmed.

Adding his voice, Senator Nafada recognized the fact that the past government found Kaugama fit to occupy the exalted position of INEC secretary for six years and admitted that the government of APC will adopt same spirit and confirm him.

Senate minority leader Senator Godswill Akpabio reminded Kaugama that he was part of the think-tank that formulated the programme which made it possible for an opposition party to win elections at the highest level urging him to ensure he creates an enabling ground in Jigawa for opposition parties to win elections.

Kaugama showered praises on the 8th senate promising that he will ensure that card readers gets more acceptance, INEC staff more committed and make elections more credible.
