Why I implemented TSA — Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday said he mustered the political will to implement the Treasury Single Account (TSA) policy based on his commitment to retrieve all funds looted from the treasury on his assumption of office in 2015.

He said it was to serve as a base, where all the recovered funds will be domiciled and ploughed back into the economy.He admitted that fighting corruption was a much more difficult task, especially under this arrangement, where one has to strike a balance between provision of public infrastructures, such as roads, rail, and power among others.

The President also said rice importation has ceased completely, since the country was now self sufficient in the production, noting that money saved from procuring the commodity abroad was now being channeled to providing critical infrastructure.He made the remarks in continuation of his nationwide presidential campaign tour, which stopped by in Ekiti State.

His words, “on the economic front, we are doing very well in agriculture, we have stopped the importation of rice and the money we saved are going into infrastructural provision like rail, roads and trying to provide power.

” Fighting corruption is a much more difficult thing to do under these arrangements but we are getting the law enforcement agencies to watch those who abuse trust, they will be investigated and prosecuted, whatever is taken away from them will be put in the treasury, hence we came with the treasury single account.”With this system we can build the rail, roads and power so that Nigerians can find their passion and businesses because I know they are hard working people”.

On security, President Buhari said no one can fault his administration’s strides in that sector, especially now that normalcy has returned to the once troubled regions in the north east.He assured the people of Ekiti that if they return him to power come February 16, more people oriented projects will be executed under his governance.

“We are very conscious of the promises that we made when we were coming in 2015,we have done quite well in security, the people of the north east are the best judges of the situation they were in and what we have done to secure the region, “he stated
Meanwhile, Minister of Transportation, who doubles as Director General of the Buhari Campaign Organisation, Rotimi Amaechi, said the presidency recently approved the extension of the Lagos to Kano railway tracks to Ondo and Ekiti States.

He said the slight review of the project to accommodate both states would cost the government additional 500million US dollars, noting that it was strategic because it has potential of creating at least one million jobs.
