Imo PDP protests police brutality on Fayose

Fayose speaks on his EFCC ordeal


The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday condemned what it described as inhuman treatment meted out to Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State by the Nigerian police force.

The State Working Committee of Peoples Democratic Party and the entire Imo PDP members observe with dismay the police brutality on the Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose.The Imo PDP in its peaceful protest marched to the State police command headquarters in Owerri, the state capital condemned the police brutality on governor Fayose .

Speaking during the protest, the State chairman of the party Barr Charles Ezekwem said that the protest became necessary following what he described as violation of human right of governor Fayose of Ekiti by the Nigerian police.He condemned the action of the police force giving the fact that the governorship election of Ekiti State is coming up in two days time.

The Imo PDP chairman said that the protest became necessary because if they allow such ugly incident to pass without condemnation, it will affect them in Imo State where the present governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has no respect for rule of law.According to the state PDP chairman, “we strongly condemn the happening in Ekiti State and we consider the action of the Nigerian police force as being undemocratic”.

“We expressed total dissatisfaction with way and manner the Nigerian police force manhandled governor Fayose and the injuries he sustained from the incident of yesterday at Ekiti state”.”We, therefore, plead with the Inspector General of Police to use his good office to ensure that the ugly incident that took place in Ekiti State does not repeat itself so as to avoid total breakdown of laws and order in Nigeria”.

In his response, the Imo state commissioner of police, Galadanchi assured them that their message would be communicated to the Inspector General of police.The Imo CP enjoined them not to take laws into their hands, assuring them that the Nigerian police force is determined to ensure safety of lives and properties of Nigerians.
