A four terms member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Sikiru Osinowo on Thursday formally declared his intention to contest the Lagos East Senatorial seat on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC).
The event which was attended by the Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa was agog with large turn out of party faithful, traditional rulers, some members of the Lagos Assembly, students, market women, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Arewa and Igbo communities among others.
Osinowo popularly referred to Pepperito is believed to be a staunch supporter of the National Leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.The lawmaker who is currently representing Kosofe constituency I, made the declaration at CBD event centre, Shangisha Lagos State.
The lawmaker who had served four terms in the state Assembly since 2003, noted that, “I believe that the level of success in the state Assembly has given birth to today’s event. The decision to officially offer my humble self to represent the good people of Lagos East Senatorial District is borne out of legislative zeal.
“Based on what the people are saying in the state House of Assembly, I have been known to be a peacemaker, with the support of my colleagues in the House, we have made the Lagos State House of Assembly the most peaceful in the country. So, I am taking the message of political peace and love to the Upper Chamber. So help me Allah,” he said.
“Permit me to say with all humility, with my sixteen years of experience in the state Assembly. I have acquired enough legislative experience to propel me for greater achievement in the Red Chamber.
“I have also been actively involved in the political activities of the East Senatorial Distict for over two decades. I know where the shoe pinches. Your welfare and improved standard of living remain my priority and I’m assuring you that I shall remain totally committed to all my promises.
“Believe me, we are here for a serious business, the primary election is around the corner, and our great party has adopted the direct election system for the primary. We should therefore register as members of APCr to enable us to participate in the primary,” Osinowo.
While giving his remark, Obasa stated that Osinowo was qualified to move higher to the Senate, since according to him, he had performed well in the state Assembly.”The stability we enjoy today in the House is made possible by Honurable Osinowo. Most of those who are aspiring are for selfish interest but Honourable Osinowo has the interest of the constituents,” he said.
