Guinea Insurance applauds Thomas’ confirmation as Commissioner For Insurance

Guinea Insurance join the growing lead of insurance industry practitioners in celebrating the recent confirmation of Mr. Sunday Thomas as Nigeria’s Commissioner For Insurance.

Describing Mr. Thomas as a great mind, Guinea Insurance Plc said that his stepping forward as the substantive chief executive officer of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) will mean well for the nation’s entire insurance industry.

“This recognition bestowed on your distinguished self is indicative of your strength of character, high probity and capacity to re-invent and attain feats others consider impossible. Many today are beneficiaries of your years of selfless and dedicated service to humanity and the insurance industry.

“We seize this momentous occasion to give glory to God for choosing you as the vessel to champion regulatory policies that meet both the insuring and investing public’s expectation and provide an enviable playing field for all Insurance professionals in Nigeria”, the company had noted in a statement issued in Lagos.

It would be recalled that Mr. Thomas’ ascension to the top job follows his confirmation by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Thomas replaced immediate past commissioner for Insurance Alhaji Mohammed Kari, as Acting Commissioner for insurance in July 2019.

Thomas who has over three decades of experience in the industry as an operator and regulator, was appointed Deputy Commissioner in charge of technical matters by President Buhari in April 2017.

He was formerly Director-General  of the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA).

In a statement at issued by Yunusa Tanko Abdullahi Special Adviser, Media and Communications to the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, the President also approved the appointments of two board members for Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), Mrs. Ya’ana Talib Yaro as the Non Executive Director representing the North East, and Mrs. Diana O. Okonta as Non Executive Director, to fill the slot for the South South. The appointments take immediate effect.
