As Nigerians prepare for the next senate inauguration, former Governor of Abia State and now a Senator-elect, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, has been tipped by a group, Movement for Justice and Equity/Solidarity for Election of President of Igbo Extraction, as the next President of the Senate to succeed the incumbent but out going President Bukola Saraki.

The group gave reasons for the choice of Kalu, saying its National President, Ambassador Simon Chukwuemeka Ogonaezi, stated that, “Kalu is a very vibrant, fearless and hardworking democrat who always considers the interest of his people and not selfish interest”.

“He is more than qualified to lead this new senate to the Promised Land as he will work in synergy with President Muhammadu Buhari to better the welfare of Nigerians.

“If elected the next Senate President, it is also going to be an opportunity for Nigerians to enjoy the ingenuity bestored on the Igbo man by God towards development and progress in all aspects of the economy”

It would be recalled that since the assumption of President Muhammadu Buhari, in office, the Igbo have not been appointed to any key positions.

The President of this country, Senate President and Speaker of House of Representatives, all come from the North while the Vice President comes from South West and as such the South East is completely marginalised and we will not tolerate the unprecedented marginalization of the area further. The federal character reflection must be adhered to, to give the South East a sense of belonging.”

“It is unfortunate that among the Service Chiefs none comes from the South East except for the compulsory constitutional statutory appointments that must reflect the Federal character”.

“So the choice of Kalu would douse tension and the marginalisation of the South East and create room for the Igboman to display that ingenuity that God created him with.”

The group Chairman reminded President Buhari that now that he has been elected that he is not the President of All Progressives Congress, APC, but Nigeria and as such should do the needful by ensuring that the marginalised South East will now be allowed to produce the senate President slot in the name of Orji Uzor Kalu, “Recall that the President swore to an oath of allegiance that he will be fair and unbiased in the discharge of his duties.

“As such, he will not take into cognisance those who voted for or against him while performing his official responsibilities, the South-East tried and gave him reasonable votes.”

To buttress his point further, he quoted late Chief MKO Abiola as saying that, “no justice no peace, any peace without justice is useless” adding that “if what we are demanding for is adequately

giving to us there would not have been this agitation for a Biafran state”, he further explained.
