Glo powers Ofala Festival, congratulates Obi of Onitsha

Ofala Festival, celebrated by the Onitsha people of Anambra State, kicked off on Tuesday, October 10, with the OraezeInternational Arts Exhibition at the Ime Obi, Onitsha. The age-long festival has been powered by telecommunications giant, Globacom, since 2011.

In a statement issued in Lagos, Globacom commended the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, Agbogidi, for all the innovations he has over the years introduced to the festival to make it more exciting and a tourist attraction. “We are delighted to be part of this noble festival for another three years”, the company added.

According to the company, the festival will feature a Youth Carnival on October 12, while the main Ofala will be commemorated in the morning of October 13 with a Cocktail party, Eze Onicha, billed for the evening of the same day.A major highlight of the festival is the Azu Ofala, which has been scheduled for October 14. It will be complemented by theOfala Music Concert, during which the most delectable damsel in Onitsha will emerge as Miss Ofala 2017 on Sunday, October 15, at CJ Patterson International Auditorium, Onitsha.

A Royal Banquet in honour of the Agbogidi will hold at the Dolly Hills Hotel, Onitsha, on Monday, October 16. Globacom said it was pleased that that the festival has grown bigger and bigger every year since it officially took over its sponsorship in 2011.

While encouraging all lovers of tradition and culture to converge on the Ime Obi, Onitsha Palace, to be part of the most celebrated gathering of the Ndigbo, the network further enjoined them to avail themselves of the legendary hospitality of the Onitsha people. Ofala Festival has been receiving Globacom’s support since 2011. The company which has added colour, glitz and glamour to the festival recently entered into a new agreement with the custodians of the cultural event to extend the partnership to 2019.
