In a press statement in Lagos on Thursday, Globacom stated that democracy, which has been practised in the last 16 years in Nigeria, has been fully accepted as evident in the 2015 general election in which an incumbent government for the first time conceded power to an opposition in an election it supervised.
The company commended the patriotism of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and his commitment to survival of Democracy in Nigeria and congratulated the incoming administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for its electoral success.
Globacom also congratulated the people of Nigeria, the electoral commission as well as security agencies for the largely peaceful way they conducted the last general elections, noting that the process has significantly elevated Nigeria’s stature worldwide.
“Democracy by its nature is geared towards building an egalitarian society where fairness and equity thrive. We wish the Buhari administration divine wisdom and fortitude in its determination to move the nation forward. We believe that the new government would engender a renewed burst of patriotism and drive to make the country better in all ramifications by maximizing its potentials,” the statement added.
Globacom therefore advised Nigerians to continue to support government at the local, state and federal levels to bring life into the economy thus propelling the country to greatness.
In conclusion, the company charged all Nigerians to collectively uphold the unity of the country in order to strengthen democracy and enhance national development, adding that Globacom would continue to offer Nigerians innovative and affordable telecommunications products and services to help empower the Nigerian people and stimulate socio-economic development of the country.
