Fall of Sambiza Forest: 963 arrested, 2 surrendered

Following the fall of Sambiza forest and the mop up exercise carried out by the troops of Operation Lafiya Dole, 963 Boko Haram terrorists arrested while two persons including a commander, surrendered in the last one week.The Theater Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Lucky Irabor, disclosed this at the Command and Control Cetre Maiduguri at a Press briefing on Wednesday.
General Irabor said during the mop up operation in various locations within the Theatre, Holy books, arms handling and manufacturing manuals, Boko Haram uniforms, among other items, were recovered.
While parading two Boko Haram insurgents, General Irabor said among the arrested was a Boko Haram commander who shuttles between the borders of Nigeria, Niger and Chad probably to gather information in order to facilitate their operation along the borders and a middle-aged man who specializes in medical field and acts as their doctor.
He said during the period under review, 119 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) were handed over to the Nigerian government by the Cameroonian forces and they have since been screened and  moved to the camps.

He said in the last one week, various arms and ammunitions were recovered, some destroyed, as the Boko Haram terrorists were fleeing and are now in disarray due to the heat of the military offensive in the Sambiza and its environs and other locations within the Theater.

Also speaking, the Commander, Air component of the Operation Lafiya Dole, Commodore Charles Owho, said the air component of the Operation has been offering tremendous support to the ground troops, thereby enhancing the pace of the operation, adding that the jets supporting the operation consumed over N28 million worth of aviation fuel within the last one week.
The theater commander has called on the general public to be vigilant, as the Boko Haram terrorists have changed their modus oparandi by knocking at the door of residents, upon opening, they detonate their Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs) to die with occupants of the house.
