Equity market opens week in positive trend, gains N21bn

Trading activities on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) Monday opened the week in positive trend, gaining N21 billion.

Specifically, market capitalisation of listed equities increased by 0.16 per cent to N13.048 trillion from N13.027 trillion traded the previous day.

Also the NSE All Share Index (NSI) appreciated by 44.36 basis points to 27035.78 points from 26991.42 points.

Meanwhile, investors traded 230.653 million shares valued at N3.207 billion in 4254 deals as against the 207.401 million shares valued at N2.836 billion in 3630 deals.

A review of the transaction showed that Nestle Nigeria Plc led gainers table during the day, appreciating by N75.00 to close at N1300.00, Presco Plc followed with a gain of N3.25 kobo to close at N37.85 kobo, Dangote Sugar added N1.05 kobo to close at N13.80 kobo, Cadbury Nigeria Plc gained N0.80 kobo to close at N9.80 kobo, Guaranty Trust Bank grew by N0.20 kobo to close at N29.60 kobo.

On the contrary, Okomu Oil Palm recorded the highest loss during the day, declining by N5.35 kobo to close at N49.85 kobo, FBNHoldings trailed with a loss of N0.55 kobo to close at N6.95 kobo, Lafarge Wapco down by N0.30 kobo to close at N14.00, Access Bank fell by N0.25 kobo to close at N9.80 kobo while United Bank for Africa depreciated by N0.15 kobo to close at N7.35 kobo.

The result further showed that Zenith Bank Plc recorded the highest volume of activities for the day, exchanging 42.338 million shares valued at N798.185 million , Guaranty Trust Bank followed with account of 26.014 million shares cost N775.728 million, FBNholdings traded 19.746 million shares worth N140.490 million, Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (Transcorp) sold a total of 16.747 million shares worth N17.207 million while Fidelity Bank sold a total of 15.152 million shares cost N30.770 million.
