Equity market opens ​ week on negative note, sheds N5 bn

Transactions on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange yesterday opened week in a negative trend, shedding N5 billion​.

Market Capitalisation of listed equities declined by 0.04 per cent to N13.027 trillion from N13.032 trillion reported on Friday.

​ The NSE All Share Index also depreciated by 11.56 basis points to 26990.59 points from 27002.15 reported the previous day.

​ Investors traded 246.507 million shares valued at N2.436 billion in 3093 deals against 227.181 million shares worth N3.659 billion exchanged hands the previous day ​ in 3246 deals

A review of the transactions for the day, showed that ​ Unilever Nigeria PLC led gainers table during the day, gaining N1.60 kobo to close at N17.70 kobo, International Breweries followed with a gain of N0.60 kobo to close at N10.00, Dangote Cement Industry gained N0.20 kobo to close at N143.00, Mansard Insurance appreciated by N0.10 kobo to close at N1.80 kobo while Sterling Bank added N0.08 kobo to close at N2.05 kobo.

On the contrary, Cement Company of Northern Nigeria Plc recorded the highest loss during the day, shedding N1.00 to close at N19.00,:UAC of Nigeria trailed with a loss of N0.70 kobo to close at N7.30 kobo, Glaxosmith Kline fell by N0.25 kobo to close at N6.00, Guaranty Trust Bank down by N0.15 kobo to close at N30.30 kobo while FCMB group declined by N0.11 kobo to close at N1.90 kobo.

The result further showed that FCMB group was the most active stock during the day, exchanging 97.771 million shares valued at N186.015 million, Zenith Bank Plc followed with account of 21.778 million shares worth N406.838 million, FBNHoldings traded 15.192 million shares cost N102.808 million, Nigerian Breweries exchanged 12.045 million shares valued at N614.938 million, United Bank for Africa sold a total of 11.968 million shares valued at N84.150 million.
