Equity market: Investors last week traded N32.559bn shares last week

Investors traded N13.174bn shares this week

A total turnover of 2.804 billion shares worth N32.559 billion in 31,715 deals were traded this last week by investors on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), in contrast to a total of 3.964 billion shares valued at N43.703 billion that exchanged hands last week in 26,054 deals.

The Financial Services industry led the activity chart with 2.508 billion shares valued at N25.292 billion traded in 23,243 deals; thus contributing 89.44per cent and 77.68per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

The Conglomerates followed with 60.873 million shares worth N105.948 million in 767 deals. The third place was Services industry, with a turnover of 51.296 million shares worth N117.545 million in 350 deals.

Trading in the top three equities namely, Zenith Bank Plc, Guaranty Trust Bank Plc and FBN Holdings Plc accounted for 1.635 billion shares worth N21.282 billion in 15,631 deals, contributing 58.32per cent and 65.37per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

The NSE All-Share Index (ASI) and market capitalization both depreciated by 2.35per cent to close the week at 22,198.43 and N11.568 trillion respectively.

Thirty-five equities appreciated in price during the week, higher than two equities in the previous week. Twenty- seven equities depreciated in price, lower than sixty- four equities in the previous week, while one hundred and one equities remained unchanged, higher than ninety- seven equities recorded in the preceding week.

On the gainers list, Cadbury Nigeria Plc led gainers table increasing by 26.26 pee cent or N1.30 kobo to close at N6.25 kobo, NPF Microfinance Bank Plc followed with a gain of 23.53 per cent or N0.20 kobo to close at N1.05 kobo. United Capital Plc gained 20.50 per cent or N0.41 kobo to N2.41 kobo.

Other firms that appreciated in price were  Caverton Offshore Support GRP Plc 20.19 per cent, Union Bank Plc 20.00 per cent, Africa Prudential Plc 18.83 per cent, Eterna Plc 18.32 per cent, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc 17.33 per cent, Nigeria Aviation Handling Company Plc 14.16 per cent and Wema Bank Plc 11.11 per cent

Wapic Insurance topped losers chart, dropping by 22.22 per cent or N0.06 kobo to close at N0.21 kobo , United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc trailed with a loss of 18.70 per cent or N1.15 kobo to close at N5.00, while May and Baker Nigeria Plc decreased by 16.74 per cent or N0.36 kobo to close at N1.79 kobo.

Other firms that recorded price depreciation were Dangote Cement Plc 15.23 percent , Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc 14.29 per cent, Skyway Aviation Handling Company Plc 10.12 per cent, Presco Plc 9.89 per cent, Flour Mills Nigeria Plc 9.81 per cent Arbico Plc 9.81 per cent and Ardova Plc 9.80 per cent.
