Employment of casual workers: Oshiomhole sacks Perm Sec , CMD

EBOJELE AKHERE PATRICK, Benin
Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State  has sacked the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Health, Dr. Ofure Eboreme, and the Chief Medical Director, Central Hospital for employing over 300 casual workers against the government’s  directive .
The sack of the two senior officers, according to the Commissioner for Labour and Establishment , Comrade Didi Adodo,  was prompted by the street protest carried out last week Friday by the casual Workers which the  governor viewed as  embarrassment to the state government having given directive that all casual Workers in state should been regularized .
“Can you imagine that this same doctor Ofure Eboreme as chief medical director, then sent  in the memo to governor on this same issue of casual workers, and based on that, a circular was issued to all ministries , parastatals  and other government agencies to regularize all casual workers. Worse of all the issues is the monthly payment of  N10,000 when the minimum wage is N18,000”, he said.
The Labour Commissioner said the Governor had already given directive for all the casual workers in the Health ministry to be regularized while the retired ones should be paid off .
According to Adodo, “ Oshiomhole has already released money to pay the workers up to date “
He however appealed to workers in the state not to always see strike or street protest as first options to press home their demand.
