Electricity consumers decry poor supply

Electricity consumers in Lagos State are not happy with the increase in tariff and poor power supply in the state.
They expressed their feelings while responding to enquiries from Daily Champion in Oshodi/Isolo, Surulere and  Ifelodun LGAs of the state since this December.
They said while supply is erratic, the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDCO)  and EKO Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) had not done anything to reduce high rate of charges to the houses without prepaid meters.
A consumer in Surulere, Arinze Odiari said: “We are appalled with the exorbitant electricity bill issued to us this December which does not tally with the power supply. A flat in my compound was paying  less than N6,000 monthly and now they increased it to N8,000 without any improvement in electricity supply.”
He added that they used to get only six to eight  hours of power supply per day in the last five days of every month which is the eve of distribution of bills.
He said after this experience  most people in the area has resorted to using their own power generators.
A tenant at Alhaji Azzez street in Ewututu,Mafoluku oshodi,   Mrs Chikaodinaka Metu said she lost a lot of her food in the fringe due to poor power supply. She noted that power in her area is terribly poor and it is unfortunate there is no better alternative.
She called on IKEDCO do revitalize the power in their area as people are ready to pay for the power supplied.
“The new electricity tariff is not justifiable if compared to the level of the power supply. That is why I am calling on them to improve the power supply.”
