Election boycott: APC warns PDP over threat to democracy

Protesters storm APC headquarters, call for Oshiomhole’s resignation

OBIORA IFOH,, Abuja

The National ChaIrman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has warned the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or any other political party that nobody can threaten the country’s democracy.

Oshiomhole stated this in response to the story attributed to the National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, that PDP may boycott the 2019 general elections.

According to Oshiomhole, the PDP is afraid that their past of rigging elections might hunt them. The PDP national chairman had said last week that the party might boycott the 2019 general election on what he considered high handedness of the ruling party over opposition.

But reacting to this at the APC national secretariat where he received the report of the Osun State governorship primary from the Committee, the APC national chairman said when a rabbit runs in the afternoon when hunter was not pushing it, it was obvious that the rabbit knows it’s time was up.

Addressing the chairman of the Osun State governor primary committee, Gov. Abdullazizi Yari and other members, Oshiomhole said, “So, our message to PDP is clear.

“Your Excellency you came from the opposition party in the past, I also came from an opposition party and we knew that we didn’t have a rigging machine, the only thing we had was instrument of persuasion, mobilization, explaining to people, convincing people and aligning with them and understanding that democracy was with the people at the grassroots. “But those who have lived on rigging machines – the one we call ward 16m- they are based in Abuja and there only access is to where electronics and papers exist. At old age they can’t possibly learn new tricks and they can’t master the dialogue of electioneering which is why they got stocked in Ekiti and l am sure they would be flat in Osun.

“Let me also use this opportunity to comment on what l read about the PDP chairman. I heard him threatening that they may boycott 2019 general elections. When a rabbit in the afternoon jumps out of its hole, not because the hunter has come to smoke it out and it is run you will know that it has already seen its end.

“The truth is that we are not desperate, we have worked hard to defeat PDP while they were in power when they had no faction, when all the founding fathers and founding mothers were in the same house. Nigerian people rejected them on account of 16 years of absolute missrule at the pick of our property as a nation.”When oil sold for a $140 per barrel and we came in when oil price had dropped. If with all those huge revenue that accrued to them, people complained of bad roads whether from the South to East from the North to the West, they have nothing new to offer to the Nigerian people.

” I think they are hunted by their own ghost and this is because they had perpetrated a do-or-die politics and they are on records that election matters are do-or-die affair.

“One of their old men was recorded as saying that and they perfected the language of rigging them out let them go to court. Now rigging machines have been dismantled and their problem is how can they survive without it. The glue that held them together, which was cheap money from treasury, again that has been caught off and what they already have, like a typical village sheep they must have chewed it all day all night for three and half years and it almost seem that they have finish all they have taken and now they are worried.”

He however commended the Osun State governorship primary committee for a job well done.Members of the committee were: Governor of Zamfara State, Abdullazizi Yari, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Hon. Peter Akpatason, Muyiwa Gbadegesin and Hon. Chidi Duru. The national chairman, however constituted the Appeal Committee.

Members of the Appeal committee are: Senator Obend Domingo, Dr. Aminu Hameed and Prof. Hamas Bakori.Commending to Committee that produced the chief of staff to the governor Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola as the APC governorship candidate, Oshiomhole said, “First, l am very excited that you did a fantastic job. Because we are going to try a new method, we needed men and women of integrity, who cannot be compromised and who any day anywhere can stand their grounds on what they believe in.

“So, l want to thank you for accepting this assignment. We accept this report in line with the provisions of our constitution and we have set up in line with our rules an appeal panel because however clean a report appears to be there are members of our party who may be aggrieved either for the right reasons or for the wrong reasons, they have the right of appeal that our party constitution provides for.

“I think it is a very positive report and also the way you approach it. If the people had cause to doubt you they would have from the word go boycotted the process but they all have confidence in the quality of the electoral panel chaired by His Excellency. We will find much as flexibility to use this method where it is appropriate and another where it is inappropriate. The important thing is that the NWC must see ourselves for what we are.”

Submitting the report, the chairman of the committee and governor of Zamfara said, “Mr. Chairman, I congratulate you for introducing this initiative and I recommend this for any state.

“About 16 aspirants participated and each was allowed to speak. Two said they withdrew from the race, we weren’t told officially. It was held across the local government and Oyetola won and Lasun Yusuff was second runner up. We decided to transmit this today because we learnt deadline for submission to INEC is Monday.
