Ekiti guber 2018: MPN elects Balogun as candidate

The Mega Party of Nigeria, MPN, has elected Mr. Sunday Balogun as its governorship candidate for the 2018 governorship election in Ekiti State.

Mr. Balogun won with 191 votes to defeat three other contestants, Surv. Abiodun Aluko, with 146 votes, in the secondposition, Senator Bode Olowoporuku, with 72 votes, the third and Ambassador Ayodele Ayodeji, with seven votes, fourth place.

Twenty-two votes were voided. The number of accredited votes was 467.The chairman of the six-man committee of the primary election in Ekiti State, Alhaji Isah Nuhu Isah, said he was very impressed with the conduct of the aspirants and the delegates. Alhaji Isah commended the people for their efforts for being patient, saying the exercise was perfectly done.

He urged the winner to carry everybody along in the schemes of things in the party.Earlier, five contestants were in the race, but before voting commenced, one of the aspirants, Mrs. Bola Adeyina, stepped down in the election for the rest of them.

Speaking earlier, one of the committee members, Pastor Abiodun Tawede, called on the delegates not to allow the primary to divide the party, saying members of the party is a family. Tawede, noted that they should not see the primary as a “do-or-die” exercise, saying only one position was being contested for in the election. He ask for cooperation for a free, fair and credible primary.The voting was done in the order of state executives, senatorial districts according to the local government councils in the state.

In his speech, the winner of the primary election of the MPN, Mr. Sunday Balogun, thanked the people for the primary which was conducted in a perfect manner. Balogun, pointed out that the primary is the greatest in Ekiti, so peaceful, saying Maga party would take over the government of Nigeria and Ekiti State.He commended security agencies for their total control of the exercise, urging all contestants to see themselves as one family.
He assured that they are going to work together.
