JACOB OGODO, Abakaliki
Nigeria Union of teachers (NUT), Ebonyi State chapter has warned that any teacher that fails to participate in the on-going indefinite strike embarked upon by the Organized Labour in the State would be de-registered.
Reacting to the reports in some quarters that the teachers have pulled out of the industrial action, the State Chairman of the Union, Comrade Joseph Nweke said teachers have reason to participate in the strike going by the amount they collect as monthly salaries which he described as meager.
‘’The rumour that teachers have pulled out of the strike is false. Teachers in the state receive the lowest salaries and they have no reason not to participate in the on-going strike.
‘’We have set up taskforce who will tour schools around and fish-out teachers who refused to participate in the strike.
‘’ Any of the teachers caught working will be sanctioned because we are fighting collectively for the good of all. The NUT has the right to de-register a teacher that fails to participate in the industrial action and once a teacher is de-registered, that teacher is not employable anywhere in Nigeria.
Comrade Nweke who is also the State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, maintained that the strike continues until the demand of the workers were met.
