An endocrinologist, Dr Aforke Isiavwe, Tuesday, urged operators of healthcare facilities to initiate, implement and strictly enforce standard safety measures to prevent resurgence of Ebola virus in the country.

NAN reports that the World Health Organisation (WHO) had hinted of the possibility of re-infection of Ebola virus in Nigeria through the land border with Republic of Benin.
“Lessons from Ebola outbreak, see what happened to us in Nigeria, all the way from Liberia, so things are no longer at ease.
“It is a wake-up call for us to be aware of international health conditions, especially those of us in the health sector and be prepared.
“There is an urgent need for every healthcare facility in Nigeria to initiate, implement and strictly enforce safety measures as stipulated in the standard Safety manual for healthcare.
“So, somebody must be given that task of taking care of routine practices of assessing risks and enforcing the doctors to put on their ward coats, enforcing the cleaners disposes of waste properly. There is need to be a department monitoring that.”
Isiavwe also urged the Federal Government to set up functional quarantine posts in all the country`s borders and ports and as well train personnel.
“There is an urgent need for functional quarantine posts at airports and borders.
“Isolate all sick persons coming from other countries and not take them to our health facilities until what they have is determined not to be contagious.
“There is also a need to set up designated hospitals with highly trained and skilled workers who can handle such persons and equip trained special transport systems by road, air or sea that can transport such person from the airports to this special unit. We need to have policies and protocols in place. “
